John 14: 23. Jesus replied, “Anyone who loves me will obey my teaching. My Father will love them, and we will come to them and make our home with them. 24. Anyone who does not love me will not obey my teaching. These words you hear are not my own; they belong to the Father who sent me.
At Sixteen years of age, I had not long got my driver’s license. One Saturday evening, plans were made to go to the movies, on a date. While, traveling down Waco Drive my mind was set on getting to the Joy Drive Inn, with enough time to get good parking.
I was excited, because I was able to drive all by myself. I wanted to impress my date, but trying to be cool, not paying attention, I ran a red light! I panicked, and I did what most of us do, look in the rearview mirror looking for the flashing lights of a patrol car. With no problem detected, I proceeded forward, but before I could focus on the road ahead, I ran another red light. Afraid and nervous, instead of getting it together, I ran two more! Four red lights in one night, that was not a good way to impress my date!
Finally, I pulled into a parking lot, to gather my composure, and then proceeded with caution! Running those red lights, not only put the lives of my date and I in danger, it put the lives of the other divers, who had the right of way, in danger as well. It could have resulted into a catastrophe, that would have affected our lives forever!
Jesus said to obey His teachings. If we obey the Word of God we can stay out of trouble.
He also said, that if you love me, we are to keep His sayings. There are a lot of people who say they love God, but a close examination, reveals that their heart is far from Him. Sometimes, if not careful we see God as a person, only to meet our needs. You can see them on Sunday mornings, sleeping late, watching the game, or simply staying at home. Going to Church never crosses their minds, but you let something happen, a major catastrophe, a dire need and immediately we are on our knees asking help from God. In the midst of it all, the neglect of the Lord will result in utter despair! And yet the Lord still has a compassionate love for us, and He still comforts, protects and provides.
Life has many roads to travel, and along the way there are signs to follow. When we don’t pay attention to the signs, we can either get lost or in trouble. How many signs have you ignored today? Maybe you’re the man or a woman in the office, and you are getting too close to a co-worker, and not paying attention to the signs, it leads you into an adulterous affair, because you’ve ignored the signs.
The warning signs are there, they are all around us, some say proceed with caution, while others say detour, or take the next exit. The one that says stop means to stop! It doesn’t mean yield or even slow down it means to stop. Don’t run the red lights, but if you do, pull over, get it together, repent and don’t run another! Obey His Word, for they are the signs placed in our lives for protection and direction. “DON’T RUN THE RED LIGHTS?
